Clara Moore at Joy of Space

Hi, I am Clara Moore, founder of Joy of Space. I am a Professional Organiser and Accredited KonMari Consultant. I offer expert support in decluttering and life tidying.

I have always had a passion for decluttering, tidying and an interest in how we live in our homes and how we experience our personal living space, and with the effects that this can have on our lives and our well-being.

Having always read extensively on the topics of decluttering, feng shui, and space clearing it was not until I read Mari Kondo's books on her method of life tidying that I found the method of decluttering that fully spoke to me.

I attended the first international Consultant training in New York City in 2016, and am an accredited KonMari Consultant, being delighted to be the first to bring this method to Scotland.

Before I had children I lived an organised life with minimal clutter. Life, and the clutter in my home changed when I had two children. Our home quickly filled up with clutter and became chaotic. After reading Marie Kondo's first book I completed my own life tidy; focusing on decluttering and organising the shared areas and my own belongings in my our home, using the KonMari method.

I was inspired to discard any belongings that did not spark joy, which resulted in being surrounded by only the belongings that I loved, which were useful and gave me joy. Completing this process transformed not only my home, but also my life and relationships.

Through focusing on what I wanted in my life it became clear what was not working for myself or my children. This process was made easier having already identified what was important in my life for myself, and for my children.

Since completing this life tidy I now easily organise and store my belongings, and now live a life that feels organised and tailored to who I am, and how I want to be as a woman, mother and in my work. I no longer worry if my home is tidy in the event of unexpected company. I am able to easily locate and update paperwork when needed, this had previously been a source of stress & avoidance due to my dyslexia.

Having put my house in order I have found that my personal life and relationships have also been put in order. I no longer feel like I have outstanding chores hanging over my head and can now see clearly what I do need and want in my life, and have never again reverted to clutter.

With my space in order I no longer feel like I am in the loop/pattern of continually decluttering or of moving one pile of belongings from one place to another, and it is easy to return order to our home after holidays and hectic periods. Having chosen what I want to keep, and where I want to keep it, I take great pleasure in returning my belongings to the places that I have chosen for them, and tidying is a regular habit, not only of mine but also of my children.

Tidying has become a source of enjoyment and time well spent together as a family, and not a source of friction. With regular tidying habits it is now easy to maintain our home and the conversations that have occurred through our regular spring clean decluttering have brought great humour, fun, connection and enrichment to our lives.
